Finding work in Britain at this moment in 2012 is not necessarily as challenging as it might appear at times or that is reported in the media, but naturally this depends hugely on the line of work in which you are interested…

There can be no denying that the state of the UK economy is less than ideal at the moment, and this is guaranteed to have an effect on people who are out of work as it even affects those of us who are lucky enough to have jobs in the first place! However, as much as you might like the idea of becoming a journalist, musician or landing that highflying job in the city, opportunities are not quite as common as they might once have been. This is not to say however that such positions will never crop up. But finding an industry which has hardly suffered in the slightest as a result of the recession which we are currently enjoying might just be the key to finding and landing that perfect long-term position. Catering falls into this category, which is why more and more people are considering taking up this line of work.

Of course, the long-term goal for many people in the catering industry is to become a head chef, but how exactly can you go about this?

Chef recruitment is something which is enjoying something of a boom right now, and there is no good reason why you too can’t get in on the action. If experience is often essential where head chef positions are concerned, but this is not always the case. If you are a budding head chef with the skills and ideas to prove your desire is valid, there are agencies out there which can help you land that perfect head chef job. Head chef recruitment is much like any other line of recruitment.

A good head chef recruitment agency like AWOLRecruitment.com will ensure that you are up to speed in terms of CV and interviewing techniques and will liaise between you and your potential employer in order to land the perfect deal for both you and your potential new boss.

Depending on your age, you might remember back to when you applied for a job, you handed your application in person to the person who did the hiring. These days, job applications are done online and then sent in that form to the business. Gone are the days when you could make an impression when you spoke face-to-face with your prospective boss.

With all this done over the internet, you never know who your competition is or how many other people are competing for the same job opening you are. Often you never hear from the company that they ever got your application which leaves you wondering if it was ever looked at. Anyone who is hunting for retail jobs in the UK can use a convenient search form that is offered online. They just enter a location, such as London, Wales, Scotland or Ireland for instance, and choose if they want permanent or temp work and click the search button.

They will then get a list of openings for that area and if they enter their lowest and highest salary requirement, they will narrow their field and their results will reflect those details. You too can search the UK today for the job you want in a certain area.

With the world’s economy as tumultuous as it is it is very easy to feel as if you’re on the bottom of a lake, trying to see your way clear to the surface. Job security is scarce, if not nil, and it seems as if you need loads of education just to qualify for the most basic jobs on the market these days. We were brought up to believe that if we dreamed, worked hard and then implemented said-dreams that we would get ahead. On a grey day it’s sometimes hard to believe that, huh?

Yet here’s some good news: there has rarely been a better time to go into business for yourself. Think about it, when you work for yourself you have at least one person on board that really cares what happens to you. Is becoming an entrepreneur a “safe” idea? No. Is working a 9 to 5 and hoping you don’t get let go any safer? Probably not. Remember how you were desperate to go skiing in Austria with your mates but work couldn’t “afford” to let you have time off? You spent years going in early, staying late but they still let you go (after your friends’ return from holiday, no doubt) and there was nothing you could do about it.

It’s not to say you should just blindly jump ship from a steady cheque but take a candid look at today’s market and see if there’s an entrepreneurial niche that’s just waiting to be filled by You – and never miss out on holidays with friends again.

The Single Market through the eyes of the people: a snapshot of citizens’ and businesses’ views and concerns

European citizens are, in general, satisfied with the possibilities that the Single Market offers in terms of a bigger choice of products (74%), more jobs (52%) and fair competition (47%). On the other hand, the Single Market is perceived as only benefiting big companies (62%), worsening working conditions (51%) and not benefiting poor and disadvantaged people (53%). 28% of those interviewed are considering working abroad in the future. These are some of the key results in the latest Eurobarometer survey on the Single Market. They also show that many Europeans are not aware of the Single Market and its benefits (35%).

Some of the elements provided by the respondents are summarized in this video:

Eurobarometer The results provide a detailed analysis of the degree to which the Single Market is understood both across the EU and in individual Member States. It assesses social attitudes to core principles of the Single Market, such as the right of citizens to work in any Member State, and also form a picture of which countries are most and least positive towards the idea of an EU Single Market. The survey also measures attitudes to public procurement that may involve foreign companies, to counterfeiting and piracy, and to citizens’ rights.

Excel is the most popular spreadsheet program that allows you to format tables, sort data, and automate computing calculations. It is important to take formal Excel skills training. Most people don’t think they would benefit from training but Excel is a great thing to have on a resume. Having a proficiency in “Excel Professional” knowledge about the more advanced functions of excel.

With training, users can learn the various tools available in Excel, depending on what they need. They won’t waste a company’s time entering data or correcting mistakes. Most excel courses are offered for many different levels from basic to advanced.

The basic functions focus on entering and editing data, formatting, formulas, page setup, and printing spreadsheets.

The more advanced functions include auto filters, data validation and using logic in formulas.

And the experts are able to array formulas, charts and drawing shapes as well as creating advanced pivot tables.

Taking a Microsoft excel course can increase confidence, allow employees to maximize use of its features, and teach employees how to create and use formulas.

Off-site classroom training would be the type of training scenario most businesses envision where you go to a lab and learn form an instructor.
Some people find training online to be easier, more convenient, and highly effective.

It’s all too easy for debts accrued over Christmas to spiral out of control, affecting your finances for months to come.

Recent YouGov research found that almost a third of Britons could end up in debt as a result of Christmas spending and, of the 2,015 adults surveyed, more than a quarter go into their overdraft at least once a month.

Think Money offers some tips to avoid the Christmas debt trap in their press release titled ‘Tips for a cut-price Christmas and a frugal New Year’, including recycling old decorations, giving homemade presents and sharing the cost of the festivities amongst family members.

Although none of the measures suggested will help to combat a serious debt problem, they could add up to a Christmas that you won’t be paying for into the New Year.

For those whose debts need more than a little careful budgeting, there’s advice on the Think Money website – with information about debt consolidation loans, debt management plans and Individual Voluntary Arrangements. If you’re worried about your finances they suggest that you talk to their experts – to make 2012 the year you take control of your debts.

On the 3rd of December 2011, New York’s Madison Square Garden will be the home of the fight between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto for the Super Welterweight WBA World Championship. As always before a big match, news reports cover everything that happens. Of course, when covering a fight such as this one, the first thing people look at is the history between the two fighters. This is the second time these two will meet, with the first time having a less than favorable outcome for Miguel Cotto, who had to throw in the towel battered and bruised.

Once it became clear, however, that Margarito had cheated against Shane Mosley by having his hand wraps covered in plaster of Paris, Miguel Cotto claimed that he suspects the same happened in his previous encounter with Margarito. He makes a strong circumstantial case, as he claims to have seen Margarito’s bandages to have been cracked after the match. Furthermore, Cotto was truly left bleeding and bruised, which is slightly odd. However, these allegations were never proven and should be left well alone. Margarito was banned for a year – a sentence that reflects the doubts around his involvement in the bandage controversy – and has hence served his sentence.

However, talks of cheating are of course the order of the day, particularly in light of Cotto’s accusations with regards to their previous encounter and news stations the world over are making speculations of what really happened during that match. Conspiracy theories are very popular, and this whole event makes for a great story. It should come as no surprise and actually as a form of relief that Margarito has agreed to have his bandages inspected before the fight itself, thereby hopefully alleviating any claims of cheating, particularly if he were to beat Cotto.

British fans are invited to watch this gala especially with John Murray taking on Brandon Rios, a main card event just before the main event. Watch Cotto vs Margarito and you won’t regret it!

The WBC World Welterweight fight will be taking place on Saturday week on the 17th of September at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. It promises to live up to every bit of pre-fight hype that the two boxers, Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz are generating for when they square off against each other. Ortiz will be defending the title after winning it in April this year. Both boxers are set to put up a very brave fight but in the end, the powerhouse pound for pound world champion, Floyd Mayweather might just have what it will take to overpower the physically superior Victor Ortiz to take the title in the 12 round fight scheduled to be broadcast on HBO’s pay per view.

Traditionally, both fighters are known for energetic and quick starts with a number of hard punches being thrown in the first round. If this is any indication of what can be expected on Saturday night, the crowds certainly won’t be disappointed as the fighters prepare to give it their all.

Most boxing enthusiasts and sports reporters expect the fight to last through the full twelve rounds and expect that the decision will come down to the four judges to decide on a winner. At present, Mayweather’s unbeaten record which now stands at 41 wins is on the line and a win here would lend more pressure on the boxer to take on possibly his most difficult fight – that of Pilipino Manny Pacquiao, who some have criticized him of avoiding although it is unclear what his reasons might be.

The fight is set to draw a viewership of over 1.5 million viewers to tune in to the broadcast on HBO’s pay per view – making it one of their biggest subscriber counts to date and an estimated 200,000 more viewers than the 34 year old Mayweather’s last fight against Shane Mosley that also took place at the MGM Grand Arena over 16 months ago. Mayweather Ortiz live stream is available world wide this Saturday!
